Tata Nano : A big expectation car with a small price

January 10th, 2008

So finally Ratan Tata’s dream has been unveiled. Its christened “Nano” due to its small size relative to others. Probably this is the first car in its segment. When Ratan Tata announced that he may soon roll out a 1 lakh car, its competitors dubbed him as *CRAZY*. Now those people are dumb shut and making lame excuses accusing the car of major problems it may face later. Cant the industry face the truth? If you cant make a dream, dont spoil others.

This car has some major changes in design. Though it looks like a deluxe segment one, it has engine at the rear, no hand brake, no fog lights. Its some 20% shorter in length than Maruti 800 but has more space at the interior.The engine is 630cc and gives more than 20 kms per litre. It meets the emission standards like Euro 3. In short, India has shown to the world that there something called innovation.

    So…
    do you really think this is gonna do good to the common man…
    he already gets a second hand car which is better in almost everything this car has to offer for the same price…
    say for example one can get an old second hand Zen for a lac and he also gets away with the lakhtakia tag on him…
    i.e….look at this man he is driving a cheap 1 lac car…

  2. Manish Says:

    Do you think that a second hand product can be better than a first hand product. You wont sell your Zen before using it atleast 2-3 years. Lots of wear and tear eat away your car and that’s quite obvious.

    Why bullying a man riding in a lakhtakiya? Is it a shame to do so? And does less cost mean less quality? I dont think so… Pepsi sells its 300ml of soft drinks at Rs 10 which actually costs less than a rupee. That means that Pepsi(with pesticides) is good for health??

    It surely gonna help the common man, looks like you have never stepped down from a high segment car to a common’s man car. Providing something with quality in less cost is what we call *INNOVATION* and *RESOURCE MANAGEMENT*

    I agree partly with you…
    A car in today’s world is a status symbol…
    so people buy a car in order to show-off..
    now the nano is a car for a lac of rupees…
    considering that on assumes that the car will be stripped off the features that r there in other models…let us take for example the mouldings inside.
    now if some of the moulding breaks…one wld have to replace the whole piece as it wld be made of plastic to reduce weight and cost…
    so that will be one added cost in the car maintainence.
    also consider the Resale value of the car…The nano is a use and throw product…so approximately zero retail value…
    Also if someone is buying a car he will be compromising his desires in a car…for example a woman might say that the car looks good but….
    here when the ‘but’ comes in one wld think before buying the car.

    I agree although it’s an engineering marvel…

  5. Swaroop Hegde Says:

    I am not going to comment on the car until it can hit the market. Until then, I tag it as a “concept car”.

    Finally Ratan Tata has done the “Impossible”. The slogan of Nike “Impossible Is Nothing” is clearly justified by Ratan Tata. He shaped his dream keeping in mind the dream of a commmon man who cannot even afford a Swift, a Zen, or even a Maruti 800. If a person is shown this car who does not have any idea about its price then believe me he wont put the label of “lakhtakiya” on it. It surely is a cute, small, and compact car with lots of space in the interior. Ratan Tata will surely be remembered for this deed always. But Hey old man the jobs not over yet because as we all kno the world is full of critics and questions will be raised and allegations will be made. But a “Champ Remains a Champ”

  7. Manish Says:

    Ratan Tata has clearly said that he has rolled out the car for people living in rural or semi-urban areas.

    @Ankit
    I agree lots of “if and buts” come, the point is also of the car meeting all standard whether it be pollution or safety.

    @Swaroop
    Well! Then wait till September.

    @Ashish
    Thanks! Looks like you would like to book one :D
