This post is going to be quite short. Yesterday, Bill Gates worked last day as a full time employee at Microsoft. Bill,52 who is a Harvard dropout gave an hour departing speech. The speech was telecasted on screen here at office. People gathered in large numbers to watch, to listen how Gates built this kingdom.

Bill disclosed that one of the biggest turning points was defeating OS/2 which helped them push their own OS with full force in the market. Now windows has a mammoth share in OS market, followed by MACs and Linux. He even told how the worked at the earlier days. There are lots of videos floating out on the net, hope I don’t have to point you all to one of them. The purpose of blogging was to tell how it feels when a person of a company is leaving, especially when he had the Chairman post, more important when you work in that company even as a part time.

Coming to a bit off-topic, we have booked a cab for tomorrow. For what? Sight seeing. I know there is not too much to see in Hyderabad, but still some places like Golkonda Fort, Charminar, Ramoji Film City etc should not be missed out. We had enough of spicy food here, so nothing more to tell about food. If you still want to know what are the fooding habits of people at Hyderabad, check the equation on my last post.

It has been four weeks since I started my work here at MSF, Hyderabad. It has been quite interesting and altogether new experience. Out of 9 weeks, only 5 more are remaining and am expected to complete a major portion of the work which am alloted.

Well, apart from doing normal work, I learnt something new stuffs

Hyderabad Food = S. Indian Food - Simplicity + Spices + Chicken - Sambhar

C# = Java - JVM - ClassLoader + MSIL + JIT + CLR - Platform Independence

.NET = RoR - MVC + Horrible Documentation

I was supposed to have a code review today, but as usual I didnt submit my prepared code timely. While submitting today evening, I missed out 2 more rules as I busy cleaning, organizing and documenting my code right from the beginning to the end.

And lastly a bad news. My domain of my Tech Blog www.manishtech.info expired today. I forgot to renew it. Hopefully I wont be extending it. Its too much, since I dont get much time to blog.

Now its Amisha’s turn! It looks that Yash Raj too thinks that making a movie hit is by item songs not by quality. After Kareena sizzling appearance in Tashan, which was a big heap of crap, now Amisha took the bold step. Yash Raj always failed to make a good movie whenever they tried making stupid moves.

Now have a look at the latest movie: Thoda pyar thoda magic in which Rani Mukherjee figures as an angel for rescuing four orphans! Its clearly a kid’s movie. Now what the hell is that item no of Amisha Patel in bikini got to do in such a movie intended to be watched by kids to a large extent? Lazy Lamhe? Its surely Crazy!!!

Do they think people are fools? I cant forget one movie last year which was from the same banner, no hotness,no masala and it still has a place in my mind! Its “Chak De India!”. It was really a wonderful movie. Barring Dhoom, which had skin how, all movies of Yash Raj fall flat on box office these days. Remember “Jhoom Barabar Jhoom”? Even Rang De Basanti, one of the best movies (not from Yash camp) does not have much of those hot scenes which are meant just for pulling the public to the theaters. Those directors who know that they are serving quality movies should not care much about these crappy ideas. I remember one famous quotation in my childhood.

Pake hue ghade pe mitti nahin chadhti

You must be asking what it means? It means that you cant put clay on a baked pot. I hope this clearly sends out a true message.

Its long since I last posted the update. It Saturday ( Holiday ), still am sitting in office till 8 in the night. Shocked? I have nothing to do at flat, so Microsoft becomes our destination even on weekend. This is the day on which we dont write a single line of code, nor do we try our hands on debugging (has always been a futile attempt). The guy next cubicle watched movies the day long. This is the day in which we watch YouTube videos, download junks, eat, even sleep in our cubicles and blah blah blah.

My loyal blog readers (if any) would be asking what’s going on or “SUP?”. The only answer you can expect “Just Going!” I havnt prepared a single line for placement, neither for the work here. If we have any problems, Google comes to rescue, the find the documentation in MSDN. Many Many classes in .NET are not documented, hope I may add community notes once I become a bit fluent in using the API. My work has being going on at a smooth pace, God only knows if something disastrous can happen. I am to get a full complied list of bugs for a tool which my team is working on. Now what that for? Actually the tool I have to build is a sort of helper tool, so some sort of integration has to be there. I cant disclose more due to the fact I have signed NDA.

Made a post at Google Groups for Web Search,as I was getting a 403 Forbidden error. Google thought I was searching like a bot. No reply till now.

Made a new post at my Tech Blog Check it

Updates the Pages of my Blog, added Networks and Movies & Popcorns page

Take it easy, am not crying! Its a pun intended intentionally for most of the people. You would like to ask what it actually means? Well read on…..

Software Engineering was the paper this semester in which every Tom,Dick and Harry scored more than he expected. Leave besides what this paper really meant, the teachers were also rich with marks and flooded the students. Naturally, everyone has high expectations in it and many even hoped of getting an A+ once in engineering.

Now my scene: I left the first sessional (no regretting) and then second. My internals were the lowest in the whole batch or at least among lowest. Means I dot know what software Engineering it and am very weak in it. Maybe I am,according to the Indian Education System. Whatever happened later doesn’t count. People got A+, majority A and I surprisingly got a B ( more than expectations).

Well the above two paragraphs was just to build the story’s climax, well its not a story anyway. Now working here at Microsoft on real time projects, I felt half of the things are not required at the earlier stage and more complicated things can be learnt gradually with experience. Have we been give any idea of Version Control Systems ? The answer is a big NO! I cant imagine developing a good software without a version control system.

Coming to some simple things. We had been told to document our codes, even the format of documenting was taught and any other way of documenting was prohibited (unless you wanted to lose marks). What happens here or anywhere, document the way you deem fit keeping in mind some standards. All companies have their own method of documenting codes. In a typical file, 2/3 rd of the content are comments.

My suggestion to budding coders and programmers is not to blindly follow the books as suggested by our Education System but think use the net to find out standards. We havnt been even taught how to file bugs. We had been taught testing, now what to do if we find a bug? ( Swallow it? ;) ) There is something called a bug tracker or Issue Tracker.

Concluding the whole article, I would like to say that you alone can make a big software provided you follow the standard methods like documenting, naming, intendation and some more software development concepts. In any way dont follow the Books blindly.

Ahem! I forgot one thing, most of the Engineers in my batch are preparing for MBA! Who wants to be a coder? Hard to figure out.

Ever since I reached Hyderabad I had hundreds of plans in my mind like having fun. playing tennis and all sorts of new things and adventures. Hardly half of those plans materialized, and rest half things were totally unexpected. I didnt imagine having some moments spending with my team sharing experiences.

It so happened that last week our Visual Studio Team went for a movie outing at IMAX Hyderabad. I was a bit reluctant at the beginning as most of the people were still aliens to me. Though the movie was Indiana Jones which I didnt want to see, still I took the ticket from my admin. I was even relucant to go since I had loads of work unfinished and was a bit scared that my mentor was find me leaving work for movie. When I returned back after collecting the tickets, he met he with tickets in my mind. I was a bit speechless thinking of the worse. To my surprise he said ” So you going for the movie na?“. I yelled “Yes, surely“. This was one face of the so called geeks at Microsoft.

The whole trip was amazing, it takes 45 mins from the campus to Prasad’s IMAX. My mentor is a real funloving guy (I noticed later), though his command with technical things is also amazing. I met many of my team members with whom I shared my experiences and all of them were praising my mentor ( named Gautam Geonka) of his skills. We were a total of 30 people and we did play and had fun even in the bus. The only thing missing was courtesy dinner too ( Cool Down! Just Joking). Taking us to movie on a Gold Ticket costing 200 bucks in itself a big deal at lest for we freshies.

VSTS Stands for Visual Studio Team System which is the team responsible for making Testing tools in Visual Studio
