Linux Workshop

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

LUG is quite active or say the most active club organization in MIT. We are organizing some or other events nearly every week, be it Introduction to Linux or Install Fest. This time we are organizing “Using Linux Workshop” especially for those who are novice in the world of Linux, those who have never used this great OS or those who are fearful that doing anything on it can crash the whole system. :P

The event is of two days, on the first day we will be guiding the people on Basics of Package Management, concepts of Repositories, Types of Packaging, Software Alternatives of Linux. Second day will be dedicated to Command Lines, Linux Filesystem Hierarchy. We would be introducing our Sponsor to the members of LUG on that day.

People who will be conducting the workshop are:

  1. Anomit Ghosh (2nd yr)
  2. Manish Sinha (3rd yr)
  3. Ankur Srivastava (1st yr)
  4. Shashank Shekhar (1st yr)
  5. Nitin Abhishek (2nd yr) .

For more information on this Event check out the First Linux Workshop events Page.

Try digging about the information, more are available here on the contents of the speakers on This Page.

The name says it all. LUG Manipal site is now hosted on a proper domain. Thanks to Swap ( read Swaroop Hegde) from Racked Hosting. Its the same hosting provider where my site is hosted, on a new server, a brand new one! It took some half an hour to move the old blog from my site to this new domain. I had messed up with the permalinks and the blog feeds earlier when the site had gone down for two days.

My own domain has also been moved to the new server.  LUG’s blog now has total of 7 users/authors. All have been posting on it as and when necessary. I hope we get more authors on that blog in the near future. Just authors arnt necessary, posting is more important point. We have got a lot of support from Racked Hosting, they have excellent servers with blazing fast speeds and quality DNS. We will be working with them to organize quality seminars and workshops. For more info about them goto their site http://www.rackedhosting.com

We have many more plans for LUG, this week plans are nearly final for two day workshop on Linux. This is especially for them who got Linux installed on their systems during the Install Fest. The first years have made a lot of requests for a workshop on Web Design and Development, though its possible to organize if it has some relation with Linux and Open Source. I hope we can do something over it next week. Wait and watch. Do give your ideas and feedback.

Inspired by Youngers

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

The title may look a bit weird, though its cent percent correct. My younger brother is my source of inspiration these days. He has been performing excellently in his academics and extra-curricular too. He is also in school football team.

Today was the Annual Day at Delhi Public School ( read DPS ) , his very own school. Getting scholar badges, blue blazer, blue ties has become quite regular and day to day stuff for him. :D He got his prize for his hard work and labour without asking anything. Guess what? A cordless headphone with FM support. Well it may not be much interest for us, but at that tender age, it has some weight. And yes! His birthday was on 29th January. Happy Birthday Ashish!

Check out some pics which he forwarded me.

Am going to update my blog soon, something new. Keep a watch.  Some overhauling on this blog.
