Cricket is no more a genteman’s game

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

For the last 3-4 days lots of developments are going on in the Cricket world which will surely make cricket fans unhappy. The old and useless umpire Steve Bucknor made uncountable mistakes in the second test of Australia. All of these went against India while the BCCI was sleeping tightly while the players were being meted out with this treatment. The team management decided that they would not complain against the umpires to pacify the matter. Injustice didnt stop here, Symonds complained Harbhajan Singh of racial accuse and while there was not evidence, he was banned for three tests.

Now when BCCI woke up from the deep slumber, ICC bowed and sacked the partial umpire from the third test.Harbhajan ban has been temporarily lifted, not revoked. I still dont believe that partial ICC who always tortures the Asians and sets free players from other countries. After all its chief is Malcolm Speed is also from Australia, a country known to be king of sledging.

And on the other part. The blog which I mentioned in the last post, got even more hits yesterday, which hit a double-century. Here are some of the snaps of the blog stats.

Sometimes even the smallest and least maintained blogs can reach the new heights of popularity. I have one more blog at manishtech.wordpress.com which I usually use to keep an archive of my posts on the Tech Blog. This blog is not mantained and usually I dont have enough time to keep an eye on it.

Lately at home I decided to revive that blog. But how to revive it? The solution is to provide quality content and write all your articles in a very simple language. There are lots of blog for geeks, but cares of n00bs? Well I do! I always write all HOWTO’s, FAQ, articles keeping in mind that the reader is completely unaware of the topic am talking about.

I posted a new post titled “Linux Software Installation : Clear your myths” on that blog at around 10:30PM night. After going through some news articles on Google News,I just came back to check the stats. Whoa! It was 11:10PM at night and that post had got more than 10 hits. How could it have become so instant? I found that the traffic was redirected from tuxmachines.org. This is an excellent site for news on Linux. I got a sudden surge in traffic and within an hour, more than 120 people visited that post. Check that post on Tuxmachines.org

Now I just checked a page on wordpress which is listing the most popular blog who gained the most popularity. My blog is on number seven (7).  Am greatly overjoyed, will continue contributing to the society.

CBAV Consultancy

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

So here goes my first professional website. I agree there is a lack of the pleasant feel as with renowned sites, but still I will try to make it more soothing, less bulky in the future.

It happened that my Mom’s eldest sister running her consultancy ( christened CBAV Consultancy). She got a website a year ago, but it got locked up in some problems with the nameservers or DNS which I coudnt figure out till the end as I didnt have the control over the domain. Today finally, when domain was declared available after being unavailable, I registered it hastily and laced it with a decent hosting plan. The plan is very attractive. 750MB web space, 10GB monthly transfer, 1 parked and addon domain each. Unlimited email ids, subdomains, databases, ftp accounts, mailing lists. I can guarantee 99.99% uptime on this hosting. Hope it brings luck in this New Year. The hosting provider is Racked Hosting.

Got a new Mobile: Nokia 1200

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Its not a new news! I had bought it a week back but resisted from putting it immediately as I didnt have its pic, my digicam was a bit damaged and had given it for repair. Since I got it back yesterday, so here are some snaps. The image quality is quite poor as I had taken it at night time in dim light with no flash. Please manage… :)

Update on 5th January (11:19AM): Got a proper snap at daytime. That’s the second one.

I know its a simple Nokia 1200 mobile, but that’s all I want, a robust cell with all basic facilities, decent battery backup and voice clarity. The second point is that when college has banned bringing mobiles in classrooms, why take risk of buying a new and costly mobile?

Getting Techie with SQLite

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

So finally after a long wait am posting something technical on this personal blog. Last year, means last week of December , I was experimenting a bit on SQLite which is actually a database software. Unlike server-client model of other database softwares like Oracle and MySQL, it is actually a flat file database which can be embedded within any application software. No need of of a database software running as a server!

Some more info about SQLite : SQLite is ideally suited for embedded systems like media players, mobile phones and other small softwares which need to maintain their own data properly. Using a database server would make it dependent and an additional server load would have to be met. Instead SQLite is a flat file database where the database software is embedded inside the host software itself and all API calls are made and received inside the application itself. The data is stored on the file. Since it is unlike the traditional database software, SQLite depends heavily on the Operating System on which it is running for functionality like file locking (reader/writer locks) and user authentication.

SQLite is used vastly and the developers claim that it is the most widely deployed database software. Firefox uses SQLite to maintain its data, the Android mobile platform from Open Handset Alliance of which Google is a part also uses SQLite. Symbian also use it in its high-end mobile Operating System. Check for more deployments of this product.

The source code of SQLite is in Public Domain, so feel free to use it without any hesitation, no licensing terms are going to bound you. Its very very liberal.

I have finally completed experimenting it for PHP, C and C++ languages. It has binding for more languages like Python, Ruby and more, but sorry I dont know much about Ruby, only a bit about Python. I may soon make a post on my Technical Blog on installing and using SQLite for C/C++, using it with PHP is damn simple. And a note: The post will be aimed at installing it on Linux not windows.

Update on 3rd January (7:36 PM): Here is the post on SQLite. This tutorial is the best for a beginner, dont refer more functions in the beginning as you can get confused. Even though the manual on the site is good, examples are lacking, which I have given in this post. Have Fun! Click Here

Happy New Year to all

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

Any new year resolution? People do make some or the other, but what about me? I dont think making a resolution may lead to some magic or a sharp change in my luck and affairs. I have a very poor record of keeping up promises which were taken by lightly with a few exceptions.

Having spent two weeks here at home, I didnt even find time for meeting friends. Thanks to different time schedules in different universities. Tomorrow I may go to meet one of my friend who lives closeby and trying to meet 2-3 more before I leave. Today have to go to my grandparents, take blessings and sit back on this fascinating world of internet :D

Only 10 days are left here at home, havnt watched much movies as I wanted to spend more of my time with my family. Last few days were very exciting in relation to my technical side, will put up the updates soon (maybe tomorrow).

Till Then a warm Happy New Year to all my friends, relatives and country men…
